Stalin wanted Pradhan to specify the Constitutional provision that made mandatory the three-language policy of English, the respective regional language, and Hindi.

Chief Minister M K Stalin claimed that the Union Education Minister had said that Tamil Nadu would not be provided funds till such time it accepted the National Education Policy (NEP) and the three-language formula. Calling it “blackmail”, Stalin asked Pradhan to specify the Constitutional provision that made the three-language policy of English, regional language, and Hindi mandatory, reported PTI.
Taking to microblogging site X, Stalin posted a video clip of Pradhan speaking to reporters in Varanasi on February 15 saying that Tamil Nadu has to come to the terms of the Indian Constitution and that the three-language policy is the rule of law.
“They have to come to the terms of the Indian Constitution,” says the Union Education Minister. He calls the trilingual policy the ‘rule of law’. Which Article of the Constitution of India mandates trilingualism? Can the education minister say that? The Indian Union is made up of states. Education is on the sync list. The Union Government is not the monopoly overlords. Tamils will not tolerate the blackmailing of “Tamil Nadu has no funds until it accepts the trilingual policy.” We ask for our rights. Delhi will have to see the uniqueness of Tamils if you speak arrogantly as if asking for your identity…,” posted Stalin, roughly translated from Tamil.

Stalin called it unacceptable and said the Tamil people would not tolerate it, the news agency reported. The state sought its due, from the Centre which is its right, and if the central minister spoke arrogantly as if the state claimed his personal wealth, then, in that case, Delhi would have to witness the trait of the Tamil people, the CM added.
The Chief Minister further stated that states constitute the Indian Union and education is on the concurrent list of the Constitution and hence, the union government cannot claim it to be their exclusive domain.
